Patch 2.85.0: Crash damage and real maintenance

Crash damage and real maintenance (5 October 2026).

Released 5 October 2026. Back to the changelog. UCP patch notes.

Changes

  • New: Hard crashes now dent the car where it hit, scaled by speed and weight, and the dents stay after you store it, respawn it or reconnect. Small bumps leave no mark.

  • New: Where you hit matters: a front hit can crack the radiator so the coolant leaks and the engine overheats, a rear hit damages the exhaust, a side hit bends the suspension and pulls the steering, and a hard landing hurts the suspension.

  • New: Engines need servicing. Oil wears out over a few play sessions of driving: you get a service reminder, then knocking and lost power, and an engine run dry long enough will seize. Overheating sends the car into limp mode and can blow the head gasket. The speedometer shows engine temperature.

  • Balance: Worn brakes stop later, worn tyres lose grip, a weak battery or starter makes for hard starts and a worn clutch slips.

  • Balance: Repairs are a mechanic's job. A repair kit only gets a dead engine running and caps your top speed until a mechanic sees it. Oil, coolant and brake fluid bottles top up the level, but oil changes, parts and bodywork need a mechanic (/callmechanic).

  • Balance: The self-service bay only opens when no mechanic is working, costs more and takes a minute. Mechanic repair quotes now include dents and crash-damaged parts.

  • Fixed: Recovering a repossessed car and using /vrestream no longer repair it for free.
