Default keys

The default keyboard bindings in the client, which ones you can change in the keybind panel, which are fixed, the keys that belong to activities, and how to bind a chat command of your own to a spare key. For anyone with a character.

Overview

The client ships with one set of default keys. Most of them are actions you can move to another key in the keybind panel (/keybinds, or Open keybinds on the Controls tab of /settings); a few are fixed because the game or the chat window depends on them. Bindings are stored on your account, not the character, so every character you play shares them, and a reset button puts everything back to the defaults on this page.

Keys are listed as they appear on a UK or US keyboard. If a key on this page does nothing for you, check the panel first: a key that is already used by another action is refused with a message naming the action that has it, and a row that shares its key with something else shows a warning.

The panel groups the actions under General, Wheels and Vehicle (Lock Vehicle / Property sits in the Vehicle group). A search box finds an action by name or by key, a row you have changed shows its default next to it, and "Clear this key" leaves an action with no key at all.

Binding a chat command to a key

The keybind panel has a second tab, Command Bindings, for commands rather than actions. Add Binding, type the command without the slash (for example engine, pinv or setstation 17) and press the key you want. The command runs exactly as if you had typed it, so anything that works in chat works on a key, arguments included. The only keys you cannot use are the reserved ones above and anything already taken by an action.

Command bindings are handy for things you type twenty times an evening: a /me you use in every scene, /lock on a key nearer your hand, /wiki on a spare function key.
