Patch 2.62.0: Winter: snow on the ground, and driving on it

Winter: snow on the ground, and driving on it (14 September 2026).

Released 14 September 2026. Back to the changelog. UCP patch notes.

Changes

  • New: From 1 November to 10 January the whole state is under snow. The ground stays white for the entire window rather than flicking between white and bare as the weather rolls, and what changes hour to hour is how hard it is coming down: light flurries, steady snow, heavy snow or blowing snow, with the wind and the temperature moving with it. The forecast, the weather card and the Discord broadcast all describe the hour rather than repeating one sentence.

  • New: Tyres and boots now leave marks in the snow.

  • New: Snow makes driving genuinely harder. Grip drops, the back steps out sooner and stopping distances grow, scaled to how heavy the fall is. It stacks with whatever your car already has fitted, and comes straight back off when the snow clears. Motorbikes get a much lighter version of it and pedal cycles are left alone.

  • New: Winter tyres are on sale at the DIY stores for $1,100 and at any mechanic for $900. They cancel most of the snow penalty, and cost you a little grip on a dry road, so leaving them on all year is a real trade rather than a free upgrade.

  • New: Snowballs. Stand outdoors in the snow and use /snowball to pack a few, then use one from your inventory to take the handful in hand and throw them. They cannot hurt anyone, they melt out of your hands indoors, and you can carry ten at a time.

  • New: Admins can force the season with /awinter on, /awinter off, or /awinter auto to follow the calendar. The setting is remembered across restarts and the days already forecast are rebuilt when it changes.
