Events

How events are announced, calling a rally with /rally and the Project Points it pays, rally types, GPS and limits, stage shows at the Vinewood Bowl and in player venues, TV and Games Night gatherings, staff-run events like Operation Aftershock, and how to take part in all of them. For anyone with a character.

What happens

Events are the moments when the city stops being a lot of separate stories and becomes one. Some are called by players: a rally puts a marker on everyone's map and a post on Discord when someone starts something worth coming to. Some are built: a music-reactive light show at the Vinewood Bowl, or a club owner's own rig running to a live set. And some are staff productions with a date, rules and consequences, like Operation Aftershock.

This page explains each kind, how you hear about it, and what you get for turning up. The rotating RP zone is switched off at the moment.

Rallies

/rally <message> calls people to where you are standing: a street race, a protest, a wake, a gig, a market. It puts a marker and a circle on everyone's map for 20 minutes, and the pop-up tells people who is calling, what it is, where it is and how far away. It also goes to the in-game-events channel on Discord with a ping to everyone who has the Rally Pings role. The message must be 8 to 180 characters: say what is happening and why people should come.

Types. Start the message with a type to set its map icon and colour: party, race, meeting, protest, show, market or help. With no type it is a general event. The word stays in your message; write it with a colon (/rally party: at the pier tonight) to leave it out.

/rally help

/where

Shows which parts of the city have people in them right now, and lists the active rallies

Limits.

  • One rally at a time per account, and never from inside an interior: step outside so people can find you on the map.

  • One rally per player every 20 minutes, and one across the whole server every 5 minutes. Both cooldowns carry over a restart.

  • Links, Discord invites and addresses are refused, and so is a call that is word for word your last one within 24 hours.

  • A message written mostly in capitals is toned down to normal sentence case.

  • Nobody can call a rally while idle.

Rewards. Someone who comes to your rally and spends 2 minutes within 60 m of it counts as turning up; people who were already standing there when you called it only count once they leave and come back. Three people turning up pays you 2 Project Points, and six pays 4, for up to 2 rewarded rallies a day per account. You are only paid if the rally runs its course or you close it yourself, so stay in the city until it ends. Your own characters, and anyone playing from your PC, do not count.

On Discord the rally post shows how many turned up and when it ends, and is marked as ended when it is over.

Stage shows

The Vinewood Bowl has a stage: eleven lasers that reach across the amphitheatre, searchlights, washes, strobes, smoke, flames and fireworks, all driven by the music. Event staff run it from a console with /stage: pick the source (the RPP radio stream, a music URL, or a YouTube link), a preset (festival, club, chill, fire, rainbow, blackout), and the beams, pyro and fireworks follow the beat. Real drops in a track trigger a white-out, floor rings and the beams flying up; a build-up before the drop pulls every beam to a rising point. You see and hear it within a few hundred metres, quieter the further you stand.

Club and venue owners have the same thing at a smaller scale. /rig inside a property you own or manage builds a rig from lasers, washes, strobes, smoke, moving heads, blacklights and a disco ball, placing each fixture where you look, and /stage runs it. A keyholder with the Stage right can run a show; one with the Rig right can build. See Properties and landlords for rights.

Watch parties and Games Night

For the pre-show, a watch party or a quieter night in, any TV in a property can show a live channel or a queue of videos cast by the room, and Games Night turns it into a party game that everyone plays on their own controller. A listening party puts one DJ's set on every radio tuned in. See TV and Games Night and Listening parties.

Staff events

A few times a season the staff team runs something with a date, a poster and rules of its own. Operation Aftershock took place on 25 September 2026: an earthquake event in the city with its own rules on civil unrest, crime caps and deaths during the unrest, and consequences that are still being felt. On the English server, services inside Los Santos are closed while the evacuation order that followed it is in force (until 2 October 2026 unless extended). See Los Santos evacuation. On the English server, characters created before the earthquake may be due the State's Earthquake Support Payment; see The State portal.

Every staff event is announced in the announcements channel on Discord and by email to opted-in players, with the rules attached. Read them: the character kill rules and the opt-out are different for every event, and "I didn't know" is not a defence at the appeal.

When and where

Rallies are wherever the caller is: /rallies lists them and /rally go takes you there. Stage shows at the Bowl are announced; club shows are whenever the owner runs one. /where shows where the crowds are right now.

How to take part

  1. Find out what is on

Type /rallies for the rallies going on and /where for the crowds. Check the in-game-events and announcements channels on Discord. Big staff events arrive by email a week ahead with a countdown.

  2. Go there

/rally go sets your GPS to the newest rally, or /rally go with its number for a particular one. The Vinewood Bowl is above the city on the hill.

  3. Stay a while

A rally counts you after two minutes within 60 m. Bring a reason to be there: a hot dog stand, a busker, a cop on foot patrol, a reporter with a camera. Any of them makes the square better than ten people standing in a circle.

  4. Call your own

When you have something ready, /rally it with a type. A race needs three cars and a start line before you call; a gig needs the rig built and the set queued.

  5. Read the rules for staff events

Staff events publish their own rules, opt-outs and death rules. Read them before the day and decide in advance whether your character is in.

Rules

Rally rewards are for real gatherings. Calling a rally and filling it with your own alts, or friends standing still, is the kind of thing staff read the logs for.

RP SCENE

It is 20:00 on a Friday on the English server. Maya Torres has set up a pop-up food market on the Paleto Bay seafront: two stalls, a grill and a friend with a guitar. She steps out of the shop onto the pavement and types:

/rally market: street food and live music on the seafront, come hungry

The pop-up goes out to everyone online, telling them who is calling, that it is a market, where it is and how far away, with "/rally go sets your GPS" at the end. A market icon and a circle appear on every map for 20 minutes, and the post lands in the in-game-events channel on Discord.

Across town, a courier finishing a delivery types /rally go and his GPS turns towards the seafront. Two tow truck drivers on a break follow him.

/me flips the first skewers on the grill and waves at the courier's van.

Ten minutes in, five people are inside the circle and have been there more than two minutes. The Discord post updates with the turnout. A deputy on foot patrol wanders in, then a busker who tries to out-play the guitarist.

/do The queue for the grill is six deep and the guitarist has given up.

At twenty minutes the rally ends by itself. Seven people turned up, so Maya is paid 4 Project Points, the first of her two rewarded rallies today. The Discord post is marked as ended.

What you see: the rally pop-up with the type, area and distance, the market icon and circle on the map, the GPS line after /rally go, and the turnout on the Discord post.
