Patch 2.53.0: Fishing overhaul: 233 species, nets, tackle and a new fight

Fishing overhaul: 233 species, nets, tackle and a new fight (8 September 2026).

Released 8 September 2026. Back to the changelog. UCP patch notes.

Changes

  • New: Two hundred and thirty-three species across twelve waters: the Los Santos coast, Chumash reef, Elysian port, Palomino south, Paleto north, San Chianski, the open ocean and the Deep Pacific, plus the Alamo Sea, Zancudo river, Cassidy Creek and Land Act reservoir. Each species has its own water, habitat, favoured hour and weight. Dawn, dusk, night and storms all change what bites.

  • New: A new fight. The reel minigame is a live tussle: hold to bring the window up, let go to drop it, keep the fish inside it, and watch the line. Reel against a running fish and it snaps; let it tire and it comes in.

  • New: Rods and reels. Carbon, tournament and deep-sea rods land heavier fish with a wider window; baitcaster and electric reels retrieve faster and take more strain. Hook something your tackle cannot hold and the line parts. Sold at the DIY stores.

  • New: Commercial nets from a tug. Buy a trawl net, /net deploy from the helm, trawl at a steady pace for a couple of minutes, then /net haul. The haul comes up as crates by species. Every water has a live stock: nets thin it, time restores it, and a fished-out bay comes up near empty until it recovers. Expect bycatch, some of it protected.

  • New: The species log. /fishstats now tracks every species you have landed with your best weight and first catch, shows each water with how much of it you have logged and its current stock, lists your rare finds, and /stats carries the summary. Legendary fish are announced to the city.
