Companies

What a company is, forming one, belonging to up to three at once, ranks and permissions, the job board, clocking on, wages and the company bank. For anyone with a character.

What it is

A company is a registered business owned by a character. It has a name, a legal form, a bank account, a stash, a fleet of vehicles, a ladder of ranks with permissions, and members. Companies own or operate the businesses you walk into around the city: the mechanic shops, bars, kitchens, 24/7 stores, haulage yards and everything else with a till. When you clock on inside one of those places, the company pays you an hourly wage from its account and the customers who come in while you are open earn it money.

A character can belong to up to three companies at once, and can own any of them. One membership is always the active one: the /company panel, company chat, the company bank, stash, fleet and wage commands all act on it. Switching is a picker at the top of the panel or /company switch, and clocking on at a business belonging to one of your other companies switches for you. Doors, kitchens, tills and company vehicles check the membership that matches that property or vehicle, not the active one, so you never have to switch just to get into work.

Companies are the employer side of the city. If you want a job with a shift pattern, a boss and a payslip, this is where you find one. If you want to run a business, this is what you are running.

How to start

22Active companies

There are three ways in.

Apply for a job. Type /hiring to open the job board. Every company with an open position is listed with its profile (description, contact number, opening hours), whether it is open right now, and each position's rank on hire, advertised wage, slots left and a blurb. Pick one, write a short note and apply. A manager sees your application and either hires you (you join at that position's rank) or declines it with a reason. You are told at once if you are online, or when you next log in.

Get invited. A member with the Invite permission types /companyinvite with your id or name. The invite lives for five minutes; answer with /acceptcompany or /denycompany. You join at the company's lowest rank.

Form your own. /company create opens the Business Formation application. You choose a legal form, which decides the price and the starting ladder of ranks:

Form

Cost

Starting ranks

Sole Proprietorship

$226

Owner

Partnership

$546

Partner, Associate

LLC

$2,070

Owner, Director, Manager, Employee

Corporation

$3,900

CEO, Director, Manager, Supervisor, Employee

The company you form becomes your active one. It has no premises yet: a business is a property with a business type, bought, rented or assigned to the company afterwards. See Properties and landlords.

Limits worth knowing before you start: three memberships per character, five pending applications at any one time, and if a company declines you, you cannot apply to it again for 24 hours.

Step by step

  1. Find a position

Open /hiring. The board can also be filtered to one company (/hiring <name>), reached from the Jobs Hub, or opened from the green "Vacancies" button on a row of /openbusinesses. The toolbar shows how many memberships and applications you have left.

  2. Apply with a note

Write something a manager can hire from: your character's experience, when you can work, why this company. Notes are up to 300 characters. You can withdraw a pending application from the same board.

  3. Get hired

Every online manager is told you applied. When one accepts, you see "Company hired you as Title. Welcome aboard." and the membership appears in your picker. If they decline, you see the reason.

  4. Go to work and clock on

Walk into one of the company's businesses and type /bduty. You are told the wage and that the business is now open, and the company announcement if there is one. If you were acting as a different company, you are switched automatically. On the English server, business duty inside Los Santos is closed while the evacuation order is in force (until 2 October 2026 unless extended). See Los Santos evacuation.

  5. Earn while you are there

Every twenty seconds the server works out what you have earned and pays whole dollars straight into your bank from the company account, plus RPP. Each full hour on the clock is confirmed with a toast. The daily reward cap is four hours per character across all companies; after that you can stay on duty and keep the business open, but the clock is unpaid.

  6. Clock off

/bduty again ends the shift with a summary of the time, cash and RPP. Walking out of the property, disconnecting or being removed from the company ends it too.

Ranks and permissions

Every rank carries a set of permission flags, and every refusal names the flag you are missing: "Your rank does not have the Kick permission." The owner has every flag regardless of rank. Only the owner can rename ranks, set rank salaries or change permissions, on the Ranks tab of /company.

A few rules sit on top of the flags. A non-owner cannot kick or re-rank anyone at or above their own level, cannot assign a level at or above their own, and cannot post or fill a position at or above their own rank. Nobody can re-rank themselves or the owner. If the owner unticks Fleet on a rank, every member of that rank is locked out of company vehicles, including the owner if it is their own rank.

Each rank can also carry a daily withdrawal limit. It is a rolling 24 hour window, not a calendar day, and the Bank tab shows how much of it you have used: "$3,750 of $5,000 withdrawn in the last 24 hours."

Money

Duty wages. The company's hourly wage (default $250, up to $2,000) is set on the Settings tab or with /bwage <amount> by a rank with Set wages. Anyone can read it with /bwage, along with the footfall income the business has made today and this week. Wages are paid from the company account as they accrue; if the account is empty, the time is unpaid, you are warned once, and you still earn RPP. Customers coming in while you are open top the account up.

Rank salaries. Separately, each rank can have a weekly salary set by the owner. The weekly payslip pays it from the company bank for every membership you hold.

The company bank. /companybank deposit, withdraw, balance and log, or the Bank tab. Deposits and withdrawals are logged with your name. Licence purchases and some other costs come out of the same account, so a treasurer keeping an eye on the log will see them.

Footfall. A staffed business earns income from the customers who come in while somebody is on duty. Nobody on duty, nobody through the door.

Running the company

If you own or manage one, the panel is your office:

  • Overview shows the announcement, the profile and the stats.

  • Members lists everyone with rank, an "active" marker, invite, kick and rank controls.

  • Ranks (owner only) renames ranks, sets salaries and withdrawal limits, and ticks permissions.

  • Jobs posts positions: a title, a blurb, up to 20 slots, an advertised wage and the rank on hire. At most ten open positions at a time. A position closes itself when its slots fill, or by hand, which declines its remaining applications.

  • Applications is where you hire and decline. Declining needs a reason, which the applicant sees.

  • Timesheet shows hours and wages per employee this week and last.

  • Activity is the log: every bank move, hire, kick, rank change, stash and fleet movement, wage change and duty session, filterable by kind. /company log [kind] [days] prints the latest 25 in chat.

  • Settings sets the hourly wage and the public profile: a description, a contact phone and opening hours, which show on /openbusinesses and the job board.

/company motd <text> sets the announcement (up to 255 characters). Every online member is told, and it shows at the top of the Overview and when anyone clocks on.

Gun shops. A company can run a licensed gun shop. Stand in a company property, type /setupshop gunsmith, then place the counter with /placemarker. The shop sells the Ammu-Nation catalogue at prices it sets anywhere from half to three times the counter price, restocks from the company account at 60 percent of the counter price per unit (up to 50 of each line), and every sale is paid into the company bank. Buyers still need a firearms licence and still count against their monthly limits. The property owner or manager and ranks with Point of sale manage the stock; changing prices and restocking also needs Bank withdraw. See Weapons.

Advertising in Weazel News. On the English server a company can book an advert on the Weazel News website. Once the newsroom has approved it, the company owner or a rank with Bank withdraw pays for it in game with /weazelad and the booking code (it starts WZ-). The money comes from the company bank and the advert runs from that moment. See Weazel News.

Ownership can be handed to an online member with /company transfer. A company can be disbanded from the panel with a reason, or with /company delete. Leaving is /companyleave, no confirmation, other memberships untouched.

Worked example

WORKED EXAMPLE

Priya Nair has been in the city a week and wants a steady job. She types /hiring and the board lists Vespucci Auto Works: "Open now", a profile with a phone number and hours of 10:00 to 22:00, and a position called Apprentice Mechanic at $300 an hour, rank Employee, two slots left. She applies with the note "New in town, done a bit of work on my own Blista, can do evenings."

Ten minutes later a toast arrives: "Vespucci Auto Works hired you as Apprentice Mechanic. Welcome aboard." The company appears in her picker. It is her first membership, so it is active.

She drives to the shop, walks in and types /bduty.

Clocked on at Vespucci Auto Works. The business is open: customers who come in earn it money, and you are paid $300/h from the company account plus 50 RPP/h.

Announcement: Quote every job before you touch the car. Parts crates are in the stash.

A customer arrives with a dented Sultan. Priya does not have the Stash permission at Employee rank, so the manager on duty takes a parts crate out for her. An hour in, a toast: "Another hour on the clock: $300 from the company and 50 RPP. $300 this shift." She checks /bwage: current wage $300/h, footfall income $640 today.

After two and a half hours she types /bduty again.

You have clocked off business duty. Shift: 2h 31m, earned $755 and 125 RPP.

Three weeks later the owner opens the Ranks tab and moves her to Manager, which carries Invite, Stash and Manage jobs. The Activity log records "rank change: Priya Nair, Employee to Manager", and her next clock-on shows the same announcement she now has permission to change.
